140 Students from 13 Countries Explore Diversity and Sustainability Through UMN Sustainability Immersion Program 2026

Tangerang, (24/07/2026) – The UMN Sustainability Immersion Program wasn’t just about developing green skills for the students. Moreover this program also encourages participants to understand cultural diversity and the importance of cross-cultural learning through direct experiences.
To provide a real experience, UMN SIP 2026 participants were invited to get to know and directly experience Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage through various visits and activities. One of them was a visit to Bukit Sinyonya, Bandung Village, which is one of UMN’s partner villages. The participants had the opportunity to interact with the local community while taking part in various activities that introduced them to the culture and daily life of the local community.

“My friends and I took part in various fun activities, from traditional Indonesian games and playing the traditional Angklung musical instrument, creating batik artwork and making coffee from scratch. I also had the opportunity to interact with the local people of Bandung Village,” said Rzan Mohamed Osman Abass, a student from Abu Dhabi University, United Arab Emirates.
For Rzan, these activities are a memorable experience that gave her the opportunity to get to know Indonesia from a different perspective. The hands-on activities also became part of the cross-cultural learning process, bringing students from different countries together with Indonesian communities and culture.

Beside Desa Bandung, the participant of UMN SIP 2026 also joined various activities at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII). The visit is not just to invite participants to explore the area, but also allows them to learn more about Indonesia’s cultural diversity through various representations of Indonesia culture, from traditional clothing and houses to the arts and other cultural heritage.
“Visiting TMII was a new experience for me, especially since this was my first time visiting Indonesia. Through this visit, I was able to see and understand the rich culture that Indonesia has to offer, from unique clothing designs and traditions to Indonesia’s unique wildlife and other cultural heritage,” stated Tinesh A/L Somasundram, a student from UTeM Melaka, Malaysia.
Tinesh shared that this experience would be one that he would remember. For him, the learning experience through UMN SIP 2026 was not limited to the classroom, but also gave him the opportunity to see and directly experience cross-cultural learning.
