Dr. Suwito Casande, S.Sn., M.Ds.

Suwito Casande is a lecturer in the Bachelor of Visual Communication Design (VCD) and Master of Design programs at Universitas Multimedia Nusantara. With a strong academic foundation in design theory and methodology, his work focuses on visual culture, particularly in the realm of fashion, clothing, and batik within the context of sustainable and regenerative design discourse.

His research explores the relationship between visual artifacts, cultural identity, and socio-ecological systems, through publications such as The Visual Structure of 19th Century Batavian Indigenous Women Clothing (2024), Eksistensi Batik Nyai di Batavia (2017), Kajian Ikonografi Parang Gerigi pada Batik Betawi (2010), and Konsep Seni Semen pada Batik. These works demonstrate a consistent focus on historical and iconographic analysis, as well as the role of design in cultural preservation and transformation. Academically, he emphasizes a rigorous approach to design research, integrating paradigmatic frameworks, critical theory, and structured methodologies such as Human-Centered Design.

His teaching and mentoring process reflect a strong commitment to analytical depth, methodological precision, and alignment between theories, variables, and research instruments in design studies. Currently, he teaches Design Methods, Design Theory, Research Methodology, as well as courses related to Sustainable and Regenerative Design, while actively advising and examining final projects and master’s theses in both the Visual Communication Design and Design Studies programs.
