Holding Sharing Session in Timor-Leste, UMN Master’s Program Introduces Ethical Perspective of ‘Humanizing AI’

Dili, Timor-Leste, (22/05/2026) – The Master’s Program of Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) held a sharing session with prospective students from Timor-Leste. This event served as a platform to introduce UMN’s master’s programs and to provide a space for discussion of higher education, industry developments, and Artificial Intelligence issues.

This sharing session was warmly opened virtually by UMN Rector Dr. Andrey Andoko. For Andrey, this was a good opportunity for prospective students to learn and understand the learning framework of UMN’s Master’s Program.

“Through this activity, it is hoped that UMN can continue to deliver quality education with international standards. Furthermore, I hope that prospective students who join UMN’s master’s program can gain various global perspectives, both on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and sustainability. These two topics are important for us to equip students with, considering that technology and industry are moving rapidly,” he said.

The event continued with a brief material presentation, delivered by Ambang Priyonggo, S.S., M.A., Ph.D., as Secretary of the Master of Communication Science Study Program, on the topic of “Humanizing AI.” Beyond the material presentation, this activity also allowed prospective students to understand what lectures and course materials would be like.

“We feel that education and understanding of AI are needed by the wider community—not only to see technological developments but also the ethical values and guidance for interacting with AI. In using AI, we don’t merely engage in question-and-answer interactions; we must also consider how to use it and ensure transparency,” Ambang explained.

Ambang also emphasized that the human role and human values are far higher than AI. For him, the human aspect of AI is important, and we cannot continually blame technological developments, because ultimately, technology is designed for humans.

“Therefore, the Master of Communication Science program is here not only to study and delve into theory. We want to provide strategic perspectives on industry and technological developments. Through the Master of Communication Science program, we guide students to explore various perspectives,” Ambang added.

The event didn’t stop there. Prospective students also received complete information about UMN’s Master’s Program from Sorta Yocevina, S.Si., M.I.Kom., as Education Consultant for Graduate and Professional Programs.

“As we know, the three study programs in UMN’s Master’s Program not only provide theoretical learning and emphasize theses. More than that, the learning also emphasizes industry relevance, so that students not only earn a degree but also gain practical professional skills,” Sorta explained.

Sorta also highlighted special scholarships for prospective students from Timor-Leste, as well as the facilities available to them. This includes education consultation and assistance with student visa arrangements. It is hoped that through this info session, UMN’s Master’s Program will not only expand its student reach but also develop professionals who can contribute to the future.
