UMN Strengthens Commitment to Sustainable International Collaborations

Tangerang – Recently on Monday, (05/05/2025) UMN has just got visitations from Teesside University, United Kingdom. This visitation is represented by Dr. Ala Al Kafri as Senior Lecturer in Computer Science, Department of Computing & Games Centre for Digital Innovation. In this collaboration Teesside University and UMN discussed future collaboration.
Teesside University is one of the universities located in middlesbrough, England. Developed in 1930, and in 1992 Teesside University got their universities status. Teesside University is the number one university in East England. Previously UMN and Teesside University have done a lot of collaborations, and in this meeting is expected to renew the Memorandum of Agreement and other collaboration opportunities.
“I hope this collaboration could result in many things. This initiative is part of UMN’s ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration with international universities.Beside that, our current goal is to internationalize, obviously with this collaboration both parties can grow and develop together”, said Dr. Andrey Andoko, M.Sc., Rector of UMN.
Andrey himself made sure to seize this valuable opportunity, to Andrey there’s a lot of things that could be collaborated between UMN and Teesside University. Certainly, this collaboration will focus on students and lecturer collaboration.
“This is a good chance for Teesside University, obviously to strengthen the collaboration whether in research, student exchange, and experience exchange. International collaborations are important for universities”, says Ala.
For Ala collaboration between international universities is an important thing, this is to ensure that universities could see new ideas and innovation from other universities. Teesside University itself is very open for collaboration with UMN, so that it can be mutually beneficial.
“The most important thing in university collaborations is we have to know the impact between UMN and Teesside Universities. We have to know the clear and keen objective for the new collaboration. It’s important for us to know what we want and what is the impact on students, lecturer, and universities”, add Ala.
Ala also refers to the future plans with UMN such as research and industry experience. Ala himself also gave a chance if there’s other studies program who wants to collaborate.
“In this meeting we discussed the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Our focus right now is to expand the range of activities with Teesside University. Looking ahead the plan is joint-research in computer science field, guess lecture, and joint-degree because UMN never had joint-degree with United Kingdom”, says Prof. Dr. Friska Natalia, S.Kom., M.T., Vice Rector for Academic Affairs & Internationalization of UMN.
Friska also added another collaboration idea, one of it is student exchange that is in demand by many students, Considering that many UMN students have also participated in student exchange programs.
“I expected we could send more students abroad, because that is UMN’s strategy to keep up with internationalization. We want to send students abroad even if it’s just one semester or short-course, the most important thing is those students got a valuable experience”, says Andrey in discussion.
Andrey also expected Teesside University students could visit and do the student exchange program at UMN, considering some of UMN’s programs that are open to international universities such as student mobility and short-course programs.
“We want to have other opportunities like research with Teesside University students, so that we can arrange the topics from both sides. Considering there’s a lot of students who is interested in research”, says Prof. Dr. Florentina Kurniasari T., S.Sos., M.B.A., as the Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Sustainability, of UMN.
Sari also expected this collaboration could also include other faculty at UMN such as Faculty of Arts and Design, Faculty of Communication Science, and Faculty of Business. Certainly, with the adjustment of collaboration objectives that inline with each faculty’s goals
